Our client in the asset finance/fintech industry is recruiting a Deputy to the Head of People & Culture for their Kenya operation. They are looking for a strong, execution-focused HR leader to serve as Deputy to the Head of People & Culture. This is a high-impact, high-responsibility role operating across both strategic business partnering and hands-on HR operations. You will support leadership in building a scalable, structured, and high-performing organization while ensuring HR fundamentals are strong, compliant, and efficient. This role requires maturity, resilience, and the ability to move seamlessly between coaching executives and resolving operational matters on the ground.

Responsibilities
Deputy Leadership & HR Oversight
- Act as second-in-command to the Head of People & Culture.
- Support leadership on people strategy, workforce planning, and organizational structure.
- Step in to represent the function when required.
Structure for Scale & Sustainability
- Assess and strengthen current team structures for growth and long-term sustainability.
- Align roles, responsibilities, and reporting lines to business needs.
- Improve clarity, accountability, and performance standards across teams.
Leadership Coaching & Accountability
- Coach managers on performance management, team leadership, and accountability.
- Hold leaders to high standards in people management practices.
- Support complex conversations and decision-making at management level.
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Lead disciplinary processes and complex employee relations matters.
- Ensure full compliance with Kenyan employment law and HR best practices.
- Oversee HR documentation, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Hiring at Scale & Talent Management
- Drive recruitment at scale while maintaining quality and cultural fit.
- Strengthen onboarding and integration processes.
- Ensure performance management systems are effective and consistent.
HR Operations & Optimization
- Digitize and streamline HR records and systems.
- Improve HR operational efficiency and data accuracy.
- Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities within HR without compromising quality.
Operational Involvement
- Step into operational matters when execution requires hands-on support.
- Manage multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Operate with a “no task is too small” mindset to ensure delivery.
Qualifications
- 4–5 years’ experience in a senior HR / People & Culture leadership role.
- Strong working knowledge of Kenyan employment law and HR compliance.
- Proven experience in high-paced environments (e.g., retail, fintech, large workforce or high-volume operations).
- Demonstrated experience handling disciplinaries, restructures, and hiring at scale.
- Experience digitising HR records and improving HR systems.
- Exposure to cost optimisation and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Experience managing and influencing multiple stakeholders.
