Our client in Harare is seeking a highly analytical and commercially minded Data Analyst with strong Power BI expertise and preferably an FMCG background to transform raw sales, inventory, and customer data into actionable insights that drive product performance, profitability, and inventory efficiency. The successful candidate will play a critical role in bridging the gap between data and strategic sales and merchandising decisions by developing impactful dashboards, delivering meaningful analysis, and providing recommendations that support business growth and revenue generation.

 

The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Analysing sales trends, inventory levels, and product performance to identify top-performing, underperforming, and stock-out products.
  • Developing, maintaining, and automating dashboards and periodic reports on key commercial KPIs including revenue, margins, turnover, and sell-through rates.
  • Providing actionable recommendations on inventory replenishment, inventory returns, upliftments, and product range rationalisation.
  • Partnering with buying, merchandising, marketing, and supply chain teams to align inventory levels with promotional activities and demand forecasts.
  • Monitoring product KPIs such as turnover, stock holding, days forward cover, and sell-through rates.
  • Maintaining data integrity and accuracy by identifying and resolving anomalies within product and sales databases.
  • Conducting exploratory data analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities that support commercial decision-making.
  • Presenting insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Business, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Commercial Analyst, or similar role.
  • FMCG, retail, distribution, or high-volume trading sector experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL (essential).
  • Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, data modelling, and reporting.
  • Advanced Power BI skills with experience building dashboards, reports, and data visualisations.
  • Experience using Tableau, Looker Studio, or similar visualisation tools will be an added advantage.
  • Experience working with SQL Server, Snowflake, or other database platforms.
  • Knowledge of Python or R will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of retail and commercial metrics including turnover, stock holding, days forward cover, and sell-through rates.
  • Experience working with large product catalogues and multiple product variants.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex datasets into practical business recommendations.
