Position: Group Crushing and Comminution Engineer
Location: Zimbabwe

Brief
Our client in the mining sector is seeking a highly experienced Group Crushing and Comminution Engineer to provide technical leadership for the design, construction, commissioning, optimisation, and standardisation of crushing and milling plants across multiple operations. The successful candidate will serve as the group technical authority for crushing and comminution systems, ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable, and cost-effective processing infrastructure. This role requires extensive experience in plant design, commissioning, contractor management, capital project execution, and operational optimisation within heavy industrial processing or mining environments. The position offers an exciting opportunity to drive engineering excellence, improve plant performance, optimise capital investments, and support the growth of multi-site mining operations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the design and optimisation of primary, secondary, and tertiary crushing circuits.
• Specify and select crushers, screens, feeders, conveyors, mills, and classification systems.
• Perform comminution calculations including Bond Work Index, power draw, circulating load, and grind size optimisation.
• Develop scalable processing plant designs and standardised engineering templates.
• Ensure crushing and milling circuits are robust, maintainable, and operationally efficient.
• Integrate crushing and milling systems with downstream mineral recovery processes.
• Develop strategies for efficient processing of varying ore types and grades.
• Design systems capable of handling ore variability, clay-rich material, high moisture content, and seasonal operating challenges.
• Ensure throughput consistency and minimise operational bottlenecks during both wet and dry seasons.
• Evaluate and optimise gravity recovery integration within processing circuits.
• Improve coarse mineral recovery and minimise losses through effective circuit design.
• Standardise crushing and milling equipment across operations to improve efficiency and reduce spare parts complexity.
• Develop approved equipment and OEM standards.
• Ensure engineering designs incorporate safe and efficient maintenance access.
• Provide technical leadership during procurement activities and contractor selection processes.
• Evaluate equipment specifications, contractor proposals, and lifecycle costs.
• Manage mechanical contractors, fabrication reviews, installation quality assurance, and commissioning activities.
• Lead plant commissioning and verify operational performance against design criteria.
• Conduct operational audits across sites and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor plant performance, identify bottlenecks, and improve equipment availability and utilisation.
• Support strategic planning and capital project execution across multiple operations.

Requirements:
• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineering registration will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 10–15 years’ post-graduate experience in mining or heavy industrial processing environments.
• Proven experience in crushing and comminution system design and optimisation.
• Demonstrated experience designing and commissioning large-scale crushing circuits.
• Experience within hard rock mining, cement, copper, iron ore, or similar heavy industrial sectors.
• Proven plant commissioning experience, including multiple plant construction projects.
• Strong operational plant experience with hands-on exposure to production environments.
• Experience managing contractors and overseeing construction projects.
• Exposure to high-wear processing environments.
• Strong understanding of comminution theory and mineral processing principles.
• Experience in equipment sizing, specification, wear optimisation, and lifecycle cost analysis.
• Strong leadership, communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to travel extensively between operational sites.
