Client Description: Our client is a leading well established consumer goods manufacturer
operating in Kenya and the wider East African region. Its core activities include the production and distribution of snack foods, such as crisps and related snack products, as well as personal hygiene care products including tissue and other paper-based essentials. The business serves both retail and wholesale markets and also provides private-label manufacturing solutions, enabling partners to market customized products under their own brands.

Job Summary: The Country Manager – Tanzania will be responsible for leading and managing all business operations within the Tanzania market, with a strong focus on commercial growth, sales performance, and customer acquisition. The role will oversee end to-end operations including sales, distribution, manufacturing (where applicable), supply chain, finance, and human resources, ensuring sustainable growth, profitability, and operational excellence. The Country Manager will drive market expansion, strengthen customer relationships, and deliver business targets while ensuring compliance with local regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all business functions within Tanzania, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic objectives and growth targets.
  • Drive commercial growth through proactive sales strategies, customer acquisition,and expansion of distribution networks.
  • Develop and implement market-specific business plans, including pricing,promotions, and sales targets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, distributors, andstakeholders to increase orders and market share.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance, ensuring achievement of revenue and profitability targets.
  • Ensure efficient supply chain and distribution operations to maintain product availability and customer service levels.
  • Lead recruitment, development, and performance management of the local team,
    fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all Ugandan regulatory requirements, statutory obligations, and company policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operations, reduce costs, and improve productivity.
  • Provide regular market insights, reporting, and business performance updates to regional leadership.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in senior leadership roles, with a strong background in manufacturing and commercial management, preferably within packaging, FMCG, or food/snack industries.
  • Mandatory experience in the packaging industry, with proven success in managing manufacturing and sales operations in Uganda.
  • Demonstrated experience working within the Tanzanian market, with deep understanding of local business environment, customer landscape, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong commercial and leadership track record with proven ability to drive sales growth, customer acquisition, and market expansion.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management, with strong analytical and financial acumen.
  • Experience with SAP (or similar ERP systems) is mandatory.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree (MBA) is an added advantage.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
