Our client is one of East Africa’s largest printing and packaging companies and serve regional markets with high-quality printing, packaging, and advertising solutions.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Manager to lead all aspects of machinery, vehicle, and infrastructure maintenance at a high-capacity manufacturing facility. The site operates over 150 machines and a fleet of approximately 40 vehicles. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical knowledge, organizational excellence, and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex maintenance systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field).
- 7–10 years of industrial maintenance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing machinery, utilities, and vehicle maintenance.
- Proficient in SAP or a similar CMMS/ERP system.
- Experience managing multicultural teams (expatriate and local staff).
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Minimum age: 35 years.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance
- Lead breakdown and preventive maintenance teams, ensuring timely response to failures.
- Drive proactive maintenance and continuous improvement practices.
- Ensure machine availability, reliability, and adherence to KPIs.
- Perform root cause analysis and resolve technical problems.
- Supervise calibration and compliance of engineering data systems.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Oversee maintenance and servicing of ~40 company vehicles.
- Manage outsourced vehicle repairs, ensuring quality and cost control.
- Track schedules, repair logs, and vehicle performance.
Procurement & Inventory Support
- Collaborate with procurement to source cost-effective spare parts and consumables.
- Monitor supplier performance and evaluate quotations.
- Maintain stock levels, preventing shortages and avoiding redundancies.
Maintenance Systems & Reporting
- Ensure all maintenance activities are logged accurately in SAP.
- Track and analyze KPIs such as MTTR, MTBF, and cost per machine.
- Provide detailed maintenance performance reports.
Project & Energy Management
- Lead installation, relocation, and overhaul of machinery.
- Manage utility usage (electricity, water, compressed air) and implement conservation initiatives.
- Oversee disposal of obsolete machinery and equipment.
Contractor & Vendor Management
- Supervise third-party contractors, ensuring safety and quality standards.
- Select and manage service vendors, enforcing contractual performance.
Continuous Improvement
- Implement Lean Maintenance practices (TPM, 5S, Kaizen).
- Reduce recurring breakdowns by addressing root causes.
- Introduce innovative maintenance techniques and best practices.
Human Resource Management
- Recruit and onboard maintenance personnel.
- Identify skill gaps and lead training programs.
- Foster accountability, safety, and team development.
