Seed Operations Manager

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Seed Operations Manager to lead our seed production, procurement, processing, packaging, and distribution functions. Based in Harare, this role is critical in ensuring that seed value chain operations meet market standards in the right quantities, at the right time.

 

Job Purpose

To oversee the full seed value chain—from production through to market distribution—ensuring quality, compliance, and efficiency to support the company’s strategic goals.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic & Financial Management: Contribute to business strategy, manage budgets, monitor costs, and propose capital expenditure projects.
  • Customer Focus: Provide agronomic advice to farmers, support growers with compliance and certification, and promote positive customer relations.
  • Seed Production & Procurement: Manage relationships with growers, oversee inspections, ensure compliance with the Seed Act, and process import permits.
  • Seed Processing & Packaging: Oversee testing, treatment, and packaging to ensure high-quality output that meets regulatory and market requirements.
  • Product Development: Collaborate with research institutions and marketing teams to introduce new seed varieties and expand the company’s product range.
  • Quality Excellence: Implement ISO 9001:2015 standards, monitor quality across operations, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor, coach, and manage staff performance while fostering a culture of results and accountability.

 

Candidate Profile

  • Education: Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Crop Science, Botany, or related field
  • Experience: 5–7 years relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a senior role within seed production or agribusiness
  • Competencies:
    • Results-driven with strong analytical and conceptual thinking
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
    • Customer service orientation and relationship-building ability
    • Proven leadership, teamwork, and people management skills
    • Knowledge of seed regulations, certification, and compliance processes
