Job Purpose
To educate children aged 10–12+ years (Year Five, Six, and Seven) using the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), Literacy, and Numeracy frameworks in a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lesson Planning & Assessment
- Prepare weekly lesson plans with clear objectives and structured sequences
- Maintain a day book or planner
- Mark and assess all student work regularly to monitor progress
Learning Environment
- Create a safe and stimulating classroom atmosphere
- Use varied teaching methods and Smart Board technology
- Identify and address learning difficulties
- Work with individuals and groups to optimize learning outcomes
Special Events & Thematic Weeks
- Plan and execute activities for International Week and Book Week
- Research relevant themes, books, or countries and design engaging programs
Health & Safety
- Maintain vigilance to prevent injuries and ensure student safety
Professional Conduct & Collaboration
- Act professionally within and outside the school
- Evaluate and improve personal teaching effectiveness
- Foster strong working relationships with colleagues
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and provide feedback
Parent & Learner Communication
- Maintain records of parent correspondence, assessments, attendance, and incidents
- Use a notebook for ongoing communication with parents
- Host parent-teacher conferences and maintain an open-door policy
- Write detailed student reports twice a year and facilitate feedback
Policy Compliance & Governance
- Follow school policies and participate in governance meetings
- Support discipline and playground supervision
Subject Knowledge & Delivery
- Deliver IPC themes across subjects including History, Geography, Science, Art, Social Studies, and International Awareness
- Plan lessons that challenge and support all learners
- Use Smart Board and printed resources effectively
- Teach literacy skills including reading comprehension, story writing, grammar, and poetic devices
- Listen to student reading daily and assign age-appropriate homework
- Emphasize neat, logical presentation of work
- Deliver numeracy lessons that build on prior knowledge and introduce new concepts
- Encourage independent problem-solving and logical thinking
- Reinforce and extend computer skills, including PowerPoint and Excel
Professional Development
- Stay current with educational trends and attend training when available
Extracurricular Activities
- Teach and coach sports practices
- Support school plays, lip-sync competitions, and assemblies
- Organize inter-house athletics, cross-country, and biathlon events
- Produce class presentations for assemblies
Decision-Making Authority
- Select teaching content, methods, and resources
- Manage classroom discipline and safety
- Design weekly mental math activities
- Plan curriculum, lessons, and extracurricular activities
- Decide on appropriate use of equipment and teaching aids
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Higher Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education (Essential)
- Experience: 3–5 years teaching experience with 10–12-year-olds (Essential)
- Skills:
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills
- Competent in Smart Board and digital teaching tools
Professional Memberships
- Member of a recognized professional teaching organization (Desirable)
