Client Description
Our client is a leading FMCG distribution company operating across Kenya, known for efficiently delivering top consumer brands to wholesalers and retailers. With an expanding footprint in the Western region, the company seeks a competent and proactive Accountant to join their Kisumu office and support the financial function as they continue to scale operations.
Role Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Accountant to manage daily financial operations, support reporting, and ensure compliance with statutory obligations. The ideal candidate will have experience in fast-paced environments such as FMCG, distribution, or retail, and be comfortable working with cross-functional teams and inventory systems.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, petty cash, and bank transactions.
- Oversee timely posting of supplier invoices, staff claims, and journals.
Reporting & Reconciliation
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, and reconciliations (bank, supplier, customer, inventory).
- Assist in cash flow forecasting and variance analysis.
Tax Compliance & Audit Support
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of statutory deductions and taxes (VAT, PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, etc.).
- Support internal and external audit processes and documentation.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding customer balances.
- Manage supplier accounts and ensure timely payments while maintaining positive relationships.
Inventory & Cost Management
- Work closely with the operations team to ensure alignment between stock movement and accounting entries.
- Assist in physical stock takes and inventory valuation exercises.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA Part III (Finalist) or CPA-K is mandatory.
Experience
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in FMCG, manufacturing, or distribution environments.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or ERP platforms).
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and tax compliance.
Soft Skills
- High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
