Company Overview
A newly established solar development company focused on delivering innovative and large-scale renewable energy solutions. The company has been granted exclusivity to develop 600MW of solar on/around Lake Kariba—set to be the largest floating/fixed solar project in Africa, and one of the largest globally. is in advanced negotiations with key stakeholders and is confident in the project’s imminent launch. As a result, the company is now assembling a team to drive its successful execution. There are several other smaller projects in the pipeline that company will simultaneously be working on.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced technical hire to lead the technical development and execution of the company’s utility-scale solar projects. This is a rare opportunity to be at the helm of a transformative energy project with national and regional significance.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Oversight: Lead all technical aspects of solar project development, from conceptual system design through to commissioning.
- Floating Solar Expertise: Guide technical decisions related to floating solar infrastructure, mooring systems, and associated civil/mechanical/electrical components.
- Project Development: Oversee the planning, feasibility, and engineering phases in coordination with internal teams and external consultants.
- EPC Management: Lead EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) tendering processes, contractor evaluation, and execution oversight.
- Team Building: Establish and manage a growing technical team to support project milestones and future portfolio expansion.
- Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with regulatory bodies, utility companies, and technical partners. Present confidently to investors and board members on all technical dimensions.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all project designs and operations adhere to local and international engineering, safety, and environmental standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial or utility-scale solar project development.
- Proven experience in end-to-end project development including system design, EPC coordination, and commissioning.
- Background in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Renewable Energy disciplines). Advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
- Experience working in Africa or emerging markets.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience presenting to senior stakeholders and investors.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams to meet ambitious deadlines and goals.
- Experience with floating solar is advantageous but not essential.
