To plan, manage, and deliver facilities infrastructure projects within the highly regulated and secure environment of the company industry. The Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all technical and engineering aspects of infrastructure projects—from design and procurement to construction, commissioning and handover. The role ensures that projects are delivered safely on time, within budget, and in full compliance with quality, safety, and security standards, while supporting the organisation’s strategic and operational goals.
Main Responsibilities (not limited to):
• Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of facilities infrastructure projects, including facility upgrades, expansions, and retrofits.
• Coordinate project lifecycle activities from design, documentation and procurement, construction, commissioning and close-out in line with industry codes, standards and protocols.
• Coordinate the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of projects in compliance with industry standards and internal protocols.
• Develop project plans, project budgets, and schedules, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and business continuity.
• Supervise and oversee construction activities on the company site, ensuring proper access control and adherence to physical security protocols during execution.
• Review engineering designs, layout drawings, and technical specifications for new and existing infrastructure using AutoCAD or similar tools.
• Prepare scope of work and procurement tender documents for the appointment of consultants, contractors and suppliers, and support procurement processes through technical evaluations.
• Ensure adherence to statutory regulations, building codes,;]l; and security policies.
• Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, and feasibility studies for infrastructure- related projects.
• Conduct site inspections, monitor contractor performance, manage progress reports and issue resolutions.
• Administer project contracts during the construction and execution phase in line with the chosen project contract.
• Work collaboratively with internal departments and external service providers.
• Facilitate project closeout and handover activities, including commissioning, training, and as-built documentation.
• Promote sustainability and energy efficiency across project interventions.
• Maintain comprehensive project records and documentation for audit and governance purposes
• Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental regulations are adhered to in line with the legal requirements for both company employees and contractors.
The Preferred Candidate is likely to have
• Bachelor’s degree in civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Essential).
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng) (Preferred but not mandatory)
• Demonstrated experience managing projects using structured methodologies (e.g. PMBOK, PRINCE2, Agile).
• Registration with SACPCMP as a Construction Project Manager or Candidate (Preferred)
• 5-8 years of relevant experience in infrastructure project engineering, preferably in construction, industrial or manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, or other drawing or engineering design software is required.
• Experience managing contractors, construction sites, and multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Working knowledge of CIDB procurement standards and associated documentation.
• Familiarity with standard construction, building and engineering contracts (GCC, FIDIC, JBCC, PROCSA) (Essential – Intermediate)
• Strong project management knowledge, including schedule integration of quality tasks and inspections (based on PMBOK or similar) (Essential – Intermediate).
• Strong coordination and verbal and written communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
• Basic understanding of infrastructure sustainability principles.
• Understanding of construction regulations and health & safety standards (Essential – Intermediate).
