Head of Finance
Job Summary
We are seeking a strategic, experienced, and hands-on Head of Finance to lead and manage all financial aspects of our microfinance institution (MFI). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management within the banking or microfinance sector and will play a critical role in strategic planning, budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, risk management, and investor relations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and implement the financial strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Provide financial insights to support decision-making at the executive level.
- Lead long-term financial planning, forecasting, and scenario modelling.
Financial Operations
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations including accounting, treasury, and budgeting.
- Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Manage cash flow and working capital efficiently to meet operational requirements.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with local banking, tax, and financial regulations.
- Liaise with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain a robust internal control environment and risk management framework.
Investor Relations
- Manage relationships with banks and investors.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for shareholders.
- Support capital raising efforts and debt management initiatives.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to ensure high performance and capability.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, integrity, and accountability.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).
- Certified accountant, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent certification required.
- Minimum 8–10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally in microfinance, retail banking, or financial services.
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations, IFRS/IAS, and MFI operational models.
- Proven experience in budgeting, reporting, audits, and donor compliance.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED COMPETENCIES:
- Strategic thinking with operational agility.
- Experience with financial inclusion models and digital finance.
- Familiarity with core banking or microfinance software (e.g., T24, Mifos, Flexcube).
- High ethical standards and commitment to transparency.
