Overview
Our client in the agriculture business in Kenya is seeking a dynamic and experienced Site Manager to oversee operations at Africa’s largest biochar production facility, their Mt Kenya site. This position will incorporate Biochar Production, Fertiliser Production and Logistics management. The primary responsibility is to oversee each business area, ensuring operational excellence, meeting company targets, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage operations at the site. Key areas of focus will be feedstock delivery and fertiliser distribution, biochar and fertiliser production units.
  • Ensure the timely delivery and processing of feedstock into biochar and fertiliser products.
  • Work with the Logistics team to optimise collections of feedstock and deliveries of fertiliser.
  • Drive performance metrics across all operational areas to ensure targets are met.
  • Work closely with production teams to build out and optimise industrial production processes and strategies to meet company goals.
  • Uphold strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, maintaining a safe and orderly operational environment.
  • Work closely with the founding team, providing clear visibility over all activities taking place on site.
  • Oversee financial management of the Mt Kenya site.
  • Constantly review operations and processes, ensuring timely maintenance and problem resolution.
  • Engage and coordinate with partners for new integrations and operational enhancements.
  • Work with the other departments within the business to align strategy and ensure company targets are met.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of leadership/site management experience in manufacturing, production, agri-processing or similar environment.
  • Experience managing a manufacturing operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and optimise operations, with a track record of achieving targets.
  • Strong project management, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficient in English and Swahili, with excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Proven track record of Managing large teams across multiple business functions

Nice to haves:

  • Startup experience is a plus.
  • Experience in fertiliser production is a plus.
  • Knowledge of composting, soil science, and regenerative agriculture is desirable
