Job Responsibilities:

Lead the Finance and Accounting team through an in-progress accounting system/software transition/implementation.  Transitioning from Sage Evolution 200 to RealPage.  This position will work as a “Team Captain” for the project and a bridge between the Zambian team and a support team in the United States.

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the organization, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial management, and leadership, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy and integrity.

  1. Financial Management:
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and budgets to provide timely and accurate information to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Monitor cash flow, investment activities, and financial performance to identify areas for improvement and recommend solutions.
  1. Accounting Operations:
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions, reconciliations, and closing processes.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to facilitate annual audits and tax filings.
  1. Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor budget variances and provide analysis and recommendations to management to support decision-making.
  1. Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective risk management strategies and internal controls.
  1. Financial Analysis and Reporting:
  • Conduct financial analysis, trend analysis, and variance analysis to assess financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare financial reports, presentations, and dashboards for senior management, board of directors, and external stakeholders.
  1. Strategic Planning:
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and support to senior management in decision-making, planning, and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities, capital projects, and strategic initiatives to assess their financial feasibility and impact on the organization.
  1. Team Leadership and Development:
  • Supervise and mentor finance and accounting staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance staff skills and competencies in financial management and accounting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Chartered Accountant or equivalent professional certification preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in accounting, financial management, or related field, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting techniques.
  • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems; advanced Excel skills required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and accuracy.
