Overview

Our client in the agriculture industry in Rwanda is looking for an experienced Farm Manager to oversee their farms. The ideal candidate should have experience managing a farm, which includes staff management, providing demonstrations on company-instructed agriculture methods, machine maintenance, planning, logistics, and composting. The candidate should also have a driving license, in order to conduct farm visits. Strong communication skills are also key for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage commercial nursery team and operations to support all farms in our network.
  • Knowledge, planning and timelines. Data/Analytics.
  • Plan and schedule directly with Value Added Services Director to ensure timely execution on orders
  • Organize relevant input purchases based on projections and ensure inventory is managed effectively
  • Proactively advise and support Production and extension lead in planning out client farms with appropriate organic SOPs
  • Identify and address farm management gaps in Nurseries and on farms through farm SOPs and “training the trainer” through visits and ERP data.
  • Ensure all applicable input data is collected on ERP system for planning and reporting purposes.
  • Support VAS Director in preparing regular progress reports for clients and partners to manage expectations and nurture trusting relationships.
  • Prepare regular budgets with team to ensure maximum productivity and minimum waste to manage costs.
  • Oversee all input inventory and logistics by leading nursery operations with clear goals and deliverables that support our client’s expansion efforts.
  • Establish farm production SOPs and documentation strategies that align farms with certification standards (e.g. Organic, GGAP, Fairtrade)
  • Establish clear communication channels and expectations with farm management teams (reporting, planning, capacity building, etc.) to ensure key milestones and deliverables are achieved on time.

Requirements

  • Fluent in both written and spoken English with the ability to convey complex concepts in a simple manner.
  • Manage and work with a team of varying cultural backgrounds, beliefs and methods.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, and analytics tools such as eProd
  • Bachelor’s degree in production agriculture or similar
  • 5+ year experience in horticulture production with agricultural experience in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Willingness to travel to remote farms.
  • Driver’s license
