Overview

Our client in Uganda is looking for a Production Manager to handle their dairy production operations. The role will be based in Mbarara. The role includes managing manpower, preparing duty and rosters, translating sales budgets into production plans, and ensuring timely goal achievement in a cost-effective manner. The Production Manager will focus on producing high-quality dairy products. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills and strategic mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall supervision and management of manpower and production operations
  • Prepare duty and vacation roaster for production staff to minimize overtime, ensure compliance to legal requirements and that all employees are gainfully employed for the required hours.
  • Translate sales budget into a production budget (Volume and cost)
  • Production planning to ensure sales orders are met.
  • Manage and organize people (between departments) and resources to ensure timely delivery of set goals in a cost-effective manner (material yields, labour efficiency, utility efficiencies)
  • Produce quality products minimizing losses, maximizing yields.
  • Maintain desired level of safety and hygiene in the factory workspace and compliance to all legal requirements.
  • Review and authorize all control records to assure adherence to procedures during processing and ensure timely corrective measures are taken.
  • Monitor production output and correct deviations; authorize material requests by controllers.
  • Training and development of production staff
  • Account for inputs and outputs of production process.
  • Monitor efficiency indicators for the department and ensure continuous improvement toward world class manufacturing (labour, water use, electricity consumption, husks utilization, product failure rate, material yields) Benchmark processes against world class standards.
  • Prepare production reports daily, weekly and monthly.
  • Develop SOP’s and Implement FSMS in the department.
  • Be a member of the FSM team and internal auditor for the FSMS.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bsc degree in Dairy Technologies, Food Science, or equivalent
  • ISO22000 FSMS and/or FSSC22000 internal audit certification
  • Min 5 years in dairy production management with an emphasis on milk powders, Whey protein concentrates, casein, butter, ghee, and UHT milk
