One of our clients, an International Telecommunications Company is looking for a Business Development Manager for their Zambian operations.

JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Director Commercial, the Job Holder will be responsible for coordinating business development activities across opportunity areas such as Fibre, IBS/DAS, Site Advertising, Rural Sites, Street
Poles, Lamp Posts, Extra Power, Lease Amendments, IoT, Smart Cities, Government and Industry by drawing on insights from customers strategy and plans, conducting industry and customer space analyses based on trends and their impact on business, and collaborating cross functionally with key internal stakeholders. The BDM will use their skills to support the customer sales function in a revenue assurance capacity by ensuring the agreed business targets per portfolio are met and exceeded consistently.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Business Development Manager is expected to devise plans and advise key stakeholders on new and opportunistic business ideas outside the traditional core revenue structures of the organization by focusing on the following: –
• Identify and develop a target list of potential new clients and partners
• Understand business objectives, challenges and opportunities of target client and industry
• Manage research, measurement, analytics, trends and data gathering from industry and report such to all stakeholders
• Ensure all new products are properly commercialized and passed on to the marketing and account management teams
• Ensure products are correctly priced according to industry and market standards
• Attend client business review sessions, coordinate and lead commercial negotiations in line with the set commercial targets and criteria from the Commercial Director
• Analysis of bids in order to ensure profitability using standard business modelling techniques and where appropriate produce a P&L to deliver clearly articulated profitability measures
• Identify, negotiate and coordinate team resources across various groups within the organization whose inputs are required for product development
• Analyse potential partner relationships for new products.
• Put in place business performance metrics that allows the success of the product to be monitored and measured
• Keep tab of competitive threats, discover opportunities, and work on envisaged weakness to constantly position the company to achieve set vision.
• Participate in pre-sales solution formulation through system deployment; including bid preparation and customer interface resulting in solutions architecture proposals.
• Conduct quarterly customer surveys to seek customer feedback on the departmental and company performance and suggest ways of correcting performance against the generated feedback
• Be the innovation champion within the commercial department as well as company operation

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE

Job Knowledge:
• MS Office applications (Microsoft Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
• Knowledge of Financial Management Principles
• Knowledge of Contract Management Principles
• Knowledge of Sales and Marketing Management
• Understanding of Telecommunications industry

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in any relevant discipline; + MBA an advantage.
• Minimum of 10 Years relevant work experience in the ICT industry (essential), advantage if experience is from an MNO, ISP or telecom infrastructure industry
• Exposure to telecom commercial product development
• Proven expertise in business development areas
• Bid/Tender exposure preferred
• 3-5 Years supervisory experience essential
