One of our clients, a large Commercial Cattle Farming Business in Zambia, seeks to employ the services of an enthusiastic & progressive manager for their business to hands-on manage, oversee and co-ordinate the cattle operations.

Education\/Qualifications<\/span>
\u2022\tMust have a Tertiary qualification in Agriculture; Animal husbandry and\/or similar farming management qualification.<\/p>\n

Skills, Knowledge and Experience<\/span>
\u2022\tThe ideal candidate would have sound knowledge of Breeding Cattle. Any experience with Stud Bonsmara cattle will be an advantage.
\u2022\tAdministrative, financial and project or operational management experience.
\u2022\tExtensive farming experience; Minimum ten years\u2019 cattle farming experience. Growing up on a commercial farm may contribute to \u201cwork experience\u201d in farming
\u2022\tAdditional experience\/knowledge\/qualification in cropping will be advantageous.
\u2022\tMinimum five years of managerial\/leadership experience leading a team of >40 people
\u2022\tStrong MS Office knowledge. Computer skills & the ability to maintain computer records of the herd are essential. Experienced with Cattle management programs will be advantageous.
\u2022\tA Valid Zambian recognised driver\u2019s licence and able to drive a motorbike<\/p>\n

\u2022\tPhysically Strong and Healthy individual whose health and character is able to peruse a farming career in the long, very hot and demanding outdoors
\u2022\tStrong people and leadership skills.
\u2022\tUnderstanding of working together as a team to achieve the organizations overall best interests.
\u2022\tHighly organised, detail orientated multitasker with strong organisational and administrative skills.
\u2022\tStrong communication skills and command of spoken and written English
\u2022\tStrong communication skills in an additional Southern Province language preferably Tonga.<\/p>\n

RESPONSIBILITIES<\/span>
\u2022\tAdministration
\u2022\tOrdering of inputs
\u2022\tLabour \u2013 allocation of work & manage up to 70 staff
\u2022\tAllocation of feed rations, feed distribution & recording of stocks
\u2022\tAll cattle activities including medical treatments, weighing, branding, tagging etc
\u2022\tMaintain good records on a computerized recording program
\u2022\tIrrigated pasture management & ranch grazing systems
\u2022\tFarm mapping, monitor grazing availability
\u2022\tMaintain & improve water reticulation systems
\u2022\tGuide a team building new fences as well as R & M on existing fences
\u2022\tMaintain & improve on the existing handling facilities
\u2022\tAttend weekly management meetings
\u2022\tProduce monthly reports
\u2022\tFlexible to assist in other departments
\u2022\tA hands-on, out there on the ranch approach to accomplishing the above tasks
\u2022\tYou will be expected to cooperate with fellow managers in the different sections of the company & be part of a strong management team to promote the whole business, covering & standing in for fellow managers should the need arise.<\/p>\n

STAFF MANAGEMENT<\/span>
\u2022\tLeadership of the cattle operations team, ensuring training, mentoring and resourcing occurs with a focus on strengthening capacity to effectively achieve operational targets.
\u2022\tOversee the induction of new staff, monitor employee performance and conduct Performance Appraisals.
\u2022\tAssessing the current staffing levels, selecting appropriate staffing to ensure balance between best farm productivity output and staffing cost input, namely not over staffed.
\u2022\tLead regular operational meetings.
\u2022\tRecord keeping of hours, overtime, annual leave, sick leave etc.<\/p>\n

OPERATIONAL DEVELOPMENT<\/span>
\u2022\tImprove operational systems, processes and policies in support of the section\u2019s objectives.
\u2022\tMaintain high standards throughout the operation
\u2022\tEnsure all regular & routine activities including medical treatments, dipping, weighing, branding, tagging, fencing etc are diligently completed, always at a standard of excellence.
\u2022\tMaintain facilities in excellent working order.
\u2022\tMust be able to account for Stock counts and shortages both in livestock and consumables.<\/p>\n
